Charles Clark began making this early version "Dent-Eye" Water Scout around 1933. These were the first real production models and were produced in a multitude of colors and patterns for the next 5 years. The first "Tack-Eye" Water Scouts appeared on the market around 1938 and were the main stay of the business for many years to come. The "Dent-Eye" pictured above is in a perch pattern and the eyes are simply "dents" and highlighted in red. It is said that these "dents" were produced by tapping the wooden plug with a ball-peen hammer. The design and colors in the box tell us that it is "pre-war" as the Clark's name is in black instead of red as found on the "post-war" boxes.
