The "Tough" Clarks

One of the strangest baits produced by The Charles A. Clark Bait Co. in 1948, was an hour-glass shaped surface bait called the "Goofy Gus". Given the model #2600, theGoofy Gus measures 3" in length and weighs 1/2 oz. With propellers mounted at both the nose and tail, it creates quite a ruckus.

Ten years later in 1958, the suspected final year of existence for the Water Scout Bait Co., a 2" version of the Goofy Gus appeared. This "Baby Goofy Gus" is extremely rare and if found at all would most likely surface in or near the hometown of this little bait company, Springfield, MO.

Also produced in 1958 was a Model #25, "Dwarf Deamon". It's 1 11/16" length made it the smallest version of the #900, Darter Scout.

A deep-diving Water Scout (top page picture) created by Charles Clark in 1935 is also a very tough bait. It measures 3" and has a diving bill similar to the duckbill series. Thought to be an experimental or low production model, the deep-diver did not sport the trademark "keel".
